The Gullah culture represents one of America's most unique and resilient communities. From the Sea Islands of South Carolina to the coastal regions of Georgia, the Gullah people have maintained their distinct traditions, language, and customs for centuries.

Through The Portal, we're ensuring these stories continue to be told, celebrated, and passed down to new generations. Every product, every story, every connection we make is a step toward preserving this invaluable cultural heritage.

The Daise Family Gullah Gullah Island

Simeon Daise is leading the charge in reimagining his family's cultural legacy for modern audiences. This is not the Gullah Gullah Island from your childhood! “This show isn’t for children; it’s for adults who grew up watching it, many of whom now have children of their own,” Daise notes.

Gullah: The Portal wasn’t created for trend’s sake. It was born from something deeper. The South is sacred ground! It’s a spiritual pulse, a rhythm, a place where the veil between worlds is thinner... and Gullah culture helps you remember that the past, present, and future are not always separate.

Through the lens of the family who inspired generations with their multicultural children’s show, now comes a story of ancestral healing, self-discovery, and cultural reclamation! Using nonlinear storytelling, Gullah: The Portal is a testament of how the past always influences the future.

This new dramatic iteration is rooted in Afrofuturism. It infuses the magic of Black culture into a contemporary context, while blending some of the nostalgic elements of the original show with modern storytelling.

“Adults still need magic too.” Daise says, and Gullah: The Portal delivers it!
